Amazon Go & How it can disrupt retail just like amazon.com did for online shopping
Amazon recently opened an Amazon Go store in Midtown Manhattan. This store was an interesting experience and the most unique shopping experience I have ever experienced. Before going into the store you need to download the Amazon Go app & enter your amazon account info or crest an account & add a payment method. you will need to use your phone as the key to allow you & your guests to enter the store. The store upon entering was similar to a 7-11 or Wawa. the store had many food, beverage & snack options aswell as sandwiches & food such as sushi. The pricing was incredible for many of the items when compared to a 7-11, bodega or A Walgreens/Duane Reade. Not everything was extremely cheap but the items that were were great bargains. With tax I payed .53 cents for a bottle of water. I have yet to find a place in manhattan that comes close to that price.
When your finished shopping you just walk out and leave. Amazon will inform you on the amazon go app shortly after purchase of your transaction cost.
Amazon is using starbucks for the hot coffee & espresso with quite affordable pricing, especially for a store in midtown manhattan. This amazon Go shopping experience could be the biggest thing for amazon since they launched the online store. The automated system could be a great system for amazon to license to other retailers or help them wage war against them. The pricing of the products was quite surprising & has already made me a repeat customer. The Amazon Go payment & checkout system implementation into a whole foods or other retailer could change the way retailers sell products. Don’t be surprised when amazon expands the Amazon Go brand into another retail acquisition & further changes our shopping experiences with it’s technology. I own AMZN, not investment advice; Just my experience at the Amazon go store. I recommend anyone interested in the amazon go store check out the store for yourself. There are now several locations in manhattan, with four now in midtown & two in lower manhattan currently.
